Watch the Trailer for the Wonderfully Insane Film JODOROWSKY'S DUNE

Watch the trailer for the documentary Jodorowsky's Dune!

Back in 1975, Alejandro Jodorowsky began working on a sweeping adaptation of Frank Herbert's Dune. While the project failed for financial reasons it's epic even in it's failure. Jodorwski spent over $2 million in pre-production over two years on a massive film that would have ran for 14 hours. All this and he never read the book. He assembled a dream team of concept artists like H. R. Giger, Chris Foss and Jean "Moebius" Giraud that produced over 3,000 illustrations. Keep in mind that all of this pre-dated the success of science fiction films like Star Wars, Alien and 2001: A Space Odyssey. No one had ever done anything like this and he was blazing new trails.

I've shared concept art from Jodorowsky's Dune before, but the trailer promises even more storyboards and concept art from this brilliant production.

Official Jodorowsky's DuneSummary
"This fascinating documentary explores the genesis of one of cinema's greatest epics that never was: cult filmmaker Alejandro Jodorowsky's (EL TOPO) adaptation of Frank Herbert's sci-fi classic Dune, whose cast would have included such icons as Salvador Dali, Orson Welles and Mick Jagger. In 1975, following the runaway success of his art-house freak-outs EL TOPO and HOLY MOUNTAIN, Alejandro Jodorowsky secured the rights to Frank Herbert's Dune - and began work on what was gearing up to be a cinematic game-changer, a sci-fi epic unlike anything the world had ever seen."

RoboCop(2014)concept art by Milena Zdravkovic

Read my exclusive interview with RoboCop(2014) concept artist Milena Zdravkovic!

The RoboCop remake has been out for a while and Variety said the film "meets the era's darker demands for action reboots with machine-tooled efficiency and a hint of soul." One concept artist was kind enough to an interview about her work in the film.

Milena Zdravkovic is a professional concept artist, 3d illustrator and a set designer based in Canada. She's worked on Hollywood movies for over a decade like Man of Steel (2013), X-Men 2 (2003)and I, Robot (2004).

Click the images to enlarge.

Maurice Mitchell: How did you get involved working on RoboCop?
Milena Zdravkovic: I’ve been in the industry since late ‘99 based in Vancouver and since the movie was shot in Toronto, they were looking for Canadian concept artists to help out. I got a call from the supervising art director Brandt Gordon and Voila!

MM: And there you are! So, is this the first time you had worked with the production designer before?
MZ: Yes, this is the first time that I was working with Martin Whist and it was great. What I loved about him is the fact that he would let the concept artists do they're thing. He was specific in giving information and guidance to what was needed and, for the rest of the time, it was just going with your experience and you're gut feeling.

Once we had finished the concept we send it back and then they review it. If it’s along the line they’re looking for there are some certain tweaks and things that obviously come back because you have to carry on with a complete look of the movie which you don’t necessarily have an overlook as a production designer would. And of course there are always things that are connected with budgeting and how much of the things you're doing are along those lines. But that’s why we're all here right? We try to come up with the best possible ideas and whatever comes through and can be done, we go for it!

MM: You obviously worked on many things, but what did you work on the most for this film?
MZ: Most of the designs for Robocop character were already done way before the film started in pre-production meaning the robots and the suits and everything else was done in L.A. but once the actual pre-production started we were taking care of mainly concepts for the set designs, locations modifications and key frames. This means that if, for example, we're going to test the location and see if we can shoot in that location let's put all of our guys in there let’s do a scene from the movie not shot yet and see if it’s gonna work or not. Having said that, I’ve done everything from the TV studio all the way to the end which is a whole sequence of him coming in on his bike, getting into the building and shooting all these big robots and everything.

That was pretty much storyboarding in a sense, but really in a key frame illustration fashion. And I’ve done that in collaboration with my partner Warren Flannagan who’s also an illustrator.

Because I start in 3D and base everything in Maya first, it is easy to share which with all the departments. At one point I lay out the shots and put all my guys in and do the lighting and then a beauty pass in Photoshop. These 3D models in Maya can then be pushed right into previs or post-production so we know exactly where we stand in real world versus just a beauty illustration.

MM: Were there any interesting challenges to working on this film?
MZ: The biggest challenge is to find visual solutions that are not seen before and finding the language that is going to be simplistic and minimalistic but still standing on its own. Whenever you work on a movie you are trying to find a language that has significantly different identity for any given project. Every movie has its own language and all of us have to feed into that to create the style and look of it. So, for the most part, it's fine-tuning, finding something that existed in the original movie but tweaking it and making it look cool and fresh.

The original RoboCop in its essence was very boxy and angular. It was very robotic, in the 80s fashion robotics. So it was a very interesting process to find those sleeker, thinner, less bulky outlines across the board, including the sets and locations. It's not the biggest challenge but it's always a challenge.
The original movie designs are cool as a cucumber, but since then the technology has completely changed. We're looking into nanorobots now. And so we’re trying to figure out how to get as much new technology as possible and make it believable for people. In this particular one we were kind of heading that way anyways. You want to do something that is possible and believable but it's still sci-fi. And that's a fine line.

I think one of the things that were a little bit challenging is finding out the solution for displays especially in a hologram universe of the studio sets. I don't know how it ended up in the end since I haven't seen the movie yet, but all of the interactive displays that the actor was flashing around and moving thru air had to be made interesting. That’s something that is a challenge because you still have to carry on with what the audience is used to seeing because in all honesty my preferences would differ from a bit from what someone else would use to tell the story. So, you kind of have to go back and forth and pull it back and push it a little bit more if you find yourself at odds with certain way of looking at things. Never the less,  It’s a fun challenge.

MM: Fun indeed. You worked on this film a while ago, but do you have any fond memories from the project?
MZ: The funniest part about the whole thing is that I hadn't met the designer till the very end because I was working remotely from Vancouver and majority of the film was shot in Toronto.  Now, they had to do reshoots for the very end of the movie and came to my turf, to Vancouver. So, it was seven o'clock or eight o'clock in the morning and I was asked to come to location to meet with the designer.

So I rushed to UBC (University of British Columbia) campus and there were a group of guys standing there in front of the building. So I approach them and asked, "OK, who's Martin?" And he said, "Oh yeah, there she is." So, that was it right? It was the immediate recognition. We'd been working together for almost a year but communicated exclusively by images. Thru pictures and illustrations. So, the very first time that we exchanged a spoken word was seven months later. It was like, “Oh there you are. OK. Let's go shoot that b**tard.” We live in a world where everything is now remote and it worked in this case because it was kind of like the movie itself, where technology enhances some parts of the experience but personal connection still never fails.

MM: A great guy to work with I'm sure! So where will we see your work next?
MZ: The next one that is coming out is Tomorrowland (2015), which I have worked for part of 2013. Once I wrapped that up I jumped onto World of Warcraft (2016).

Thanks for much for the interview Milena! See more of Milena Zdravkovic's exciting portfolio at milenazdravkovic.com!

Back to the Future Part II(1989) concept art by John Bell

Check out Back to the Future Part IIconcept art by John Bell!

Every Friday I try and feature artwork from a classic of science fiction cinema or television. This week's "Flashback Friday" post is on Back to the Future Part II (1989).

Everyone loves the hoverboards from Back to the Future, and DVD commentary by the director led lots of people to believe it's real. That hope was rekindled this week when "Funny or Die" made a video that claimed the hoverboards were coming in December. It turns out it was a hoax, but it shows how much we love those things. How cool would it be to skateboard on air? The original designs were created by John Bell and I thought this would be a good time to share them.

John Bell is an Oscar nominated, and British Academy Award winning, professional concept and storyboard artist. He's worked on Hollywood films like Back to the Future Part III (1990), Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides (2011) and G.I. Joe: Retaliation (2013).

Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D (2013) "Lorelei"concept art Phillip Boutte Jr.
Check out my exclusive interview with Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.Dconcept artist Phillip Boutte Jr.!

Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D is one of my favorite shows this year. It's still in a ratings slump, but the series is taking it to the next level to bring in viewers. ABC is creating a multi-episode event known as "Uprising" and Ian de Caestecker, who plays Agent Fitz on the show, says the show is becoming "lot more exciting and more appealing."

"I think the first half of the season was quite episodic, de Caestecker said, "Now we are starting to get into much more of week-by-week development - rather than just an episodic story of the week - which I find a lot more exciting and more appealing. There are a lot more things coming out about each character in the latter half of the season. I think it is really hitting its stride and turning into the show that it wants to be."

Guest stars are a big part of the rest of the season. This week Lady Sif (Jaimie Alexander) will make an appearance and the last episode "T.A.H.I.T.I." had an appearance by Elena Satine as Lorelei the sister of Aurora the Enchantress. Over the weekend ABC tweeted concept art of Lorelei and I had an interview with concept artist Phillip Boutte Jr. who talked about working on the show and the challenges and joys he has working closely with costume designer Ann Foley.

Boutte Jr. is a professional costume concept artist who's worked on major Hollywood movies like Man of Steel(2013), Inception (2011) and X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009).

Maurice Mitchell: It's great to talk to you again Phillip! I guess the first question is how did you start working on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D ?
Phillip Boutte Jr.: Ann and I have known each other since the beginning of my career back in 2007. We have always gotten along and enjoyed working together. When she took the job on S.H.I.E.L.D, she contacted me to do an illustration for the character Mike Petterson. I was so excited not only to work on the show but to get a chance to work with Ann on her first big venture in the land of television.

MM: What's it like working on the show?
PB: Working on the show is great! I love the crew and we all get along well. It has been a great learning experience for me. I have been able to not only work with Ann as she fleshes out a design but I get to work with Kelly, the cutter fitter as well. He is responsible for making a lot of the garments that end up on the characters. Because everything is custom and made to order, it is very important for me as illustrator to draw things that can realistically be made.

MM: You've been designing mostly original costumes so what's it like adapting characters from the comics?
PB: Ann's design process always starts with what is real and a lot of research. She studies the comic character's look, then turns to fashion and history to translate the character's look into reality. I really appreciate the amount of work she does to get a character just right. She also, very much so, cares about the source material which is a big plus on my nerd radar. She wants to know that the character will be recognizable to fans but she also wants to make sure they look like they fit into the world without being too over the top or too overly designed. She balances that nicely so it makes it easy for me to illustrate the characters that I love so much. I feel like the designs are always respectful and don't stray too far away from who the character is.

Also, you should see how much Ann and the team are able to do in such a SHORT amount of time! It's mind boggling.

MM: It is mind-boggling considering the speed of television. What was the inspiration for Lorelei's costume?
PB: Ann wanted her to be chic, regal, and sexy. She wanted her to feel otherworldly. An enigma to this world. She also, again, very much so wanted her to feel like the character off the page. We did several renditions of her based of her many iconic looks from the pages of the comics. The one that stuck immediately was the one shoulder gown look. From there, everything else seemed to fall into place. Ann also wanted to make sure the color of her garment matched as closely to what we see in the comic as possible.

By making the decision to use Chiffon, it gave her the ability the layer the color you see with slight variations of blues, greens and teals. The end result looks beautiful and much better than it would if she only used one flat color. That's the magic of costume design in a nutshell! LOL

MM: How closely do the costumes on the show match the concept designs?
PB: For folks reading at home, keep in mind that all these sketches were done prior to the costume being fabricated. I say this because since they look so photo real, I get a lot of people asking me if I touch them up or paint them after completion of the costume.  The sketches presented are what Ann and I take to the producers to get them to sign off on the garments. From there, Kelly gets to work shaping them into reality.

I'm very proud of the work I have done on the show as it is detailed, precise, and matches the end product almost to a tee.

Check out exclusive House of Monsters concept art by Dawn Brown and Warren Manser and find out how to win a beautiful Bride of Frankenstein maquette!

Last year Dawn Brown started a Kickstarter campaign to fund the production of her next stop-motion animation web series House of Monsters based on the award-winning short. They got really, really close to their goal. But, unfortunately, didn't make it. She's not giving up though and has started a new campaign that promises to be bigger than ever.

Here's some concept art they sent me for the film. It's glorious.

"The Famous Girl" by Warren Manser.

Even though the great stop-motion animator Ray Harryhausen is gone it's great that stop motion animation isn't dead. That's why I support this project and you should too!

Here's the full press release
Built around a 2012 stop-motion short film of the same name, the new House of Monsters web series is a throwback to the classic Rankin/Bass holiday specials like Rudolf the Red Nosed Reindeer and Mad Monster Party.House of Monsters is created by Dawn Brown, a successful Hollywood concept artist, whose credits include Alice in Wonderland, Pirates of the Caribbean, and The Hunger Games movies. When Brown was developing new character designs for the House of Monsters Kickstarter campaign, she turned to veteran concept artist Warren Manser. Manser's credits include Man of Steel, Transformers: Dark of the Moon, and Thor.

“Great concept art can charge the imagination and inspire people to jump on board the project,” says Brown. “Warren has an amazing talent for capturing the charm and energy of what we hope to accomplish with House of Monsters.” Brown has turned to the popular crowdfunding site Kickstarter to raise funds to initiate production of the series. “We felt that Kickstarter would be a great way to get people involved and be a part of the filmmaking process from the very beginning.”

The series follows mummies, werewolves, vampires and friends through their adventures in an ominous castle perched over a fearful village. House of Monsters will begin production after the Kickstarter campaign wraps April 17, 2014. The series will premiere on Amazon.com early next year.

For more concept art, storyboards, and character designs, visit the House of Monsters Kickstarter page.

Doug Chiang and Iain McCaig talk with Warwick Davis
Watch this Star Wars: Episode VIIinterview with Doug Chiang and Iain McCaig!

Here's how we know the next Star Wars will be amazing! Some of the same amazing artists are back! Actor Warwick Davis sat down with Star Wars prequel concept artists Doug Chiang and Iain McCaig backstage at "Star Wars Celebration Europe" in Essen, Germany last year. In this interview they talk about working on the upcoming Star Wars: Episode VII (2015), how to draw Darth Maul, how George Lucas would inspire his artists and how to make concept art timeless by using real culture and adding 10%.

Doug Chiang and Iain McCaig are professional concept and storyboard artists who've worked on blockbuster films like Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991), The Mask (1994)and The Avengers (2012).

While talking about working on the next Star Wars film Doug Chiang said, "For me it's such a treat. It comes full circle because I've been thinking Star Wars since I saw it when I was fifteen. In the films that I've done since then I've always imbued a little bit of Star Wars into those films in terms of what I draw because it's just naturally in me."

Iain McCaig added, "You get very, very fond of the characters you create and for Padme I was there the day she was born and I was there when she died and I got to do her funeral costume. It's like you really are there with your kids growing up."

"I think the biggest thing though besides the actual work itself is having Iain and the whole team back." Chiang said, "It is like family on that level because we're all artists in the industry we all kind of grew up together and to grab the gang back is just fantastic. We have a blast every day."

McCaig laughed and said, "We've done the psychic thing where I've been doing a drawing and, across the room , one of the other artists will say, 'Hey I've got this idea!' And he'll hold it up and it's literally the same drawing."

Exclusive: Artist Tim Burgard Tells What it Was Like Working on BATMAN & ROBIN

Batgirl cartoon by Tim Burgard

What was it like to work on Batman & Robin? Tim Burgard shares some hilarious stories.

Recently I did a post on Batman & Robin and Tim Burgard very kindly sent me some illustrations while working on the film. In the course of the conversations he shared some gut-busting stories about what it was like in the art department, so here they are along with some exclusive artwork from the film.

Tim Burgard is a professional concept and storyboard artist who's worked on Hollywood movies like Rise of the Planet of the Apes(2011), X-Men Origins: Wolverine(2009)and Thor(2011).

Click on the images to enlarge.

Maurice Mitchell: You have a design for Poison Ivy that is pretty different from the final film. Was it considered?
Tim Burgard: Because the costume department didn't release their costume designs to me for me to do my job I went ahead and did their job first. You can see from my boards that I decided to use Poison Ivy's original comic book costume, which was better than the film version in my opinion.

MM: I see some of these storyboards show Arnold Schwarzenegger as Mr. Freeze, but several actors were considered for the role. How late in the production was he cast?
TB: When I started they had not changed the script to reflect Arnold as Mr. Freeze. Patrick Stewart was their first choice and his dialog was written in faux Shakespearean. I annoyed everybody but tickled myself constantly by reading the flowery Mr. Freeze lines out loud in my pretty-good "Arnold" voice. Priceless. I'm still sorry they would not let me keep my old script. If they had the guts to make Arnold say those lines it would have saved the movie (well, made it a comedy).

MM: You mentioned that you almost got fired from Batman & Robin?
TB: Batgirl rode a cycle, not walk down a fashion catwalk, so I did this practical outfit.

I did a sketch, just as a joke (or a cry for help) to pass around the art department, that almost got me fired off of "Batman and Robin" on week one. Silverstone appeared on the Oscar's the Sunday night before I started boarding on the film on the Warners lot, and she seemed completely stoned, enormously round and covered in some pink fluffy dress like she rolled over several times in cotton candy.

My first job was to draw her in a scene and there was no reconciling the costume that they were planning with the girl I watched the night before. Like Rosanne Barr strutting in the Victoria Secret fashion show. Then I heard Alicia was actually on the lot with the costumers cinching her into a corset to get the measurement for a costume she would have to lose weight to fit in. So in my frustration I drew a cartoon.

I had it tacked up above my desk in the artist's room where passers by couldn't get a direct look at it. Little did I know that one of the art directors or PAs loved the cartoon so much that he had to have his own copy. After I went home he made a color copy and put it up in his cubical in the main art department. Where everyone can see it. See where I'm going? Bob Ringwald, the costume designer, saw it and had a fit. Luckily I hadn't signed the cartoon and my fan didn't give me up.

Update: Added another low-res image

We finally have the Hulkbuster armor! Artist Adi Granov said there would be no "Hulkbuster" armor in Avengers, but when Iron Man 3 was being promoted, they released concept art of a brutish armor that many assumed was the famous suit Stark used to fight the Hulk. Turns out it was just a construction suit named "Igor" used to hold things up. But we finally have a real suit of Hulkbuster armor in Avengers 2 and it's even better than I expected!

On Tuesday, ABC aired a special called Marvel Studios: Assembling a Universe which gave a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the Marvel films since Iron Man. It's been called the "Marvel Cinematic Universe" for creating an interconnected universe of Marvel characters. As part of the special Marvel released some incredible concept art including the Hulkbuster armor. Also, notice Quicksilver is blasting through an army of Ultron's robots. At least two of the artists are Charlie Wen and Andy Park.

Charlie Wen and Andy Park are professional concept artists working for Marvel on blockbuster films like Thor: The Dark World(2013), Guardians of the Galaxy(2014)andMarvel's The Avengers(2012).

Check out vintage Batman 1989concept art by Anton Furst!

Every Friday I try and feature artwork from a classic of science fiction cinema or television. This week's "Flashback Friday" post is on Batman (1989).

The art direction for Batman (1989) won an Academy Award for it's stunning visuals. The haunting art deco designs broke through the streets and created a sprawling metropolis for Batman to prowl. One of the most striking designs was for the "Flugelheim" museum. "All the buildings, except the Cathedral, are dwarfed by the geometric savagery of the Flugelheim Museum whose brutal exterior is more akin to locomotive design than an art gallery like the Guggenheim," Anton Furst said. He felt it was "one of my most successful designs. I wanted the museum to be a surprise, a new, radical edifice which concealed an older building underneath. The radical broadstroke of the exterior conceals a style which borrows from Otto Wagner as well as Brownstone housing"

Anton Furst was a production designer who worked on Hollywood movies like Full Metal Jacket (1987), Awakenings (1990) and The Company of Wolves (1984). He died tragically at 47.

See What the Alien Harness Almost Looked Like in FALLING SKIES Concept Art by Rob McCallum

Falling Skies (2011) concept art by Rob McCallum
Check out Falling Skiesconcept art by Rob McCallum!

The sci-fi show Falling Skies is starting it's fourth season in June, and has been nominated for several awards including Emmy, Saturn and Critic' Choice awards. Chicago Sun-Times critic Thomas Conner called it "...a trustworthy family drama but with aliens." I love the show although the first season got a "maybe watch" from me. Earlier this month the trailer for season four dropped and it looks insane.
Looking back to the first season we can see where some of the key designs took shape. Most prominently are the creatures attach to children to "harness" them and turn them into slaves for the aliens. One of the talented designers working on the show was Rob McCallum.

Robert McCallum is a professional concept and storyboard artist who's worked on Hollywood movies like Pacific Rim (2013), Total Recall(2012)and The Thing(2011).

Rob did an interview years ago with Three If By Space where he talked about the design of the alien harness.
"There had been a harness designed for the pilot but they wanted to change that and make it look a bit more alien. I did a bunch of designs then, my last one, I did my own take on how it could look more organic in places with metal etc in it. We had been going for a bone look and I incorporated that into the 'jellyfish' idea with stuff in the soft jelly and made a metal spine down the back.

"Rob liked this and then gave me some visual reference for sea creatures and it went from there. Not much more was done to it and then it was submitted to Spielberg for approval and we got the OK not long after. I was pleased to say the least."

Here's what the harness looked like on the show.

Here's the concept art by Rob.

Now here are some other designs that he created for the Alien ships and base which went in a different direction on the show.

The season premiere is on Sunday, June 22 AT 10/9C on TNT.

Check out The Fifth Element(1997) concept art by Jean-Claude Mezieres!

In 1991, director Luc Besson approached Mézières to work on designs for his science fiction film called Zaltman Bléros. Besson was a huge fan of his science fiction comic series Valérian and Laureline. The project stalled and Mezieres and his old friend Jean "Mobeius" Giraud were inspired by the designs of flying taxis and New York to develop an album named The Circles of Power about a taxi driver, named S'Traks, who drove a flying taxi around a great metropolis on the planet Rubanis. The album was sent to Besson and when he returned to work on the newly renamed The Fifth Element discovered that elements of his album had been incorporated into the film. Mézières produced more designs for the film for taxis, spaceships and sets including the Fhloston Paradise liner.

Crushing ALIENS Powerloader Concept Art by James Cameron and Syd Mead

Aliens (1986) by James Cameron
Check out Aliensconcept art by James Cameron and Syd Mead!

Every Friday I try and feature artwork from a classic of science fiction cinema or television. This week's "Flashback Friday" post is on Aliens (1986).

One of the most iconic visuals from the Alien movies is the Powerloader that Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) uses to fight the Alien Queen. Recently, an awesome Dad made an incredible Powerloader costume for his baby, so I thought it would be a good time to show the origins of the exoskeleton. Where did it come from? How was it designed?

James Cameron is a director of such films as Avatar (2009) and Abyss (1989) and Syd Mead is a professional illustrator and "visual futurist" who's worked on Hollywood films like Blade Runner (1982), Tron (1982) and Elysium (2013).

Click on the images to enlarge.

In the script for Aliensit said,
        INT. CARGO LOCK

The Queen spins at the sound of door motors behind her.
The parting doors REVEAL an inhuman silhouette standing
there.

Ripley steps out, WEARING TWO TONS OF HARDENED STEEL.
THE POWER LOADER. Like medieval armor with the power of
a bulldozer. She takes a step...the massive foot
CRASH-CLANGS to the deck. She takes another, advancing.
James Cameron explained it's origins and reasoning this way, "It's based on a design that I created a few years ago for another story that never got made [called Xenogenesis]. That predated the 'Transformer' robots, at least as a fad in this country. I think that the exo-skeleton concept has been used in a lot of literary SF.

"In this particular film, the origin of it was that I wanted to have the final confrontation with the Alien be a hand-to-hand fight. To be a very intense, personal thing, not done with guns, which are a remote way of killing. Also, guns carry a lot of other connotations as well. But to really go one on one with the creature was my goal. It made sense that Ripley could win if she could equalize the odds. So there had to be some way of amplifying her strength, in a way that was not a comic-bookish sort of concept, like taking a pill."

Syd Mead had done a design for "Walking cargo loaders" that Joe Johnson said inspired the AT-AT walkers in Return of the Jedi. Cameron, who said he felt a "little ripped off" by the film, hired Mead to design the Powerloader.

Walker design by Syd Mead
Mead said, "I started designing it when they went to Pinewood. They constructed the test model with 2x2s and trash bags stuffed with newspapers to get the articulation down. The finished prop was so cumbersome, they had to have guys in black skin suits running it. It was not power operated, it was operated by manipulators behind out of shot."

If you've been moved by any scene in Spider-Man 3, then you'll cry over these illustrations from the film. Spider-Man 3is one of those movies that seemed perfect and went horribly wrong. It was critically panned for it's pacing, characterization and treatment of the comic characters.

On the other hand, Spider-Man 3earned $890,871,626 worldwide at the box office. It's the highest grossing of the Raimi Spider-Man films and it also broke records for highest grossing film, single-day records and worldwide opening-weekend. The reality is that for all it's flaws it's still a gorgeous film with stunning visuals. One of the many talented artists working on the film was Kasra Farahani. His illustrations for key scenes in the film like Mary Jane's stage performance, the New Gobin's fall and Gwen Stacy's perilous skyscraper hang are stunning and really moving.

Farahani is an L.A. based professional concept illustrator, art director and production designer who's worked on Hollywood movies like Avatar(2008), Alice in Wonderland (2010)andthe unmadeBioshock film.
