The movie Ex Machina (2014) won an Oscar for Visual Effects. The film is visually stunning. A film like this takes a lot of work and one of the many talented artists working on the film shared some illustrations for Ava on his site.

Oliver Cubbage is an Emmy nominated professional concept artist who's worked on major motion projects like Mad Max: Fury Road (2015), Jupiter Ascending (2015), and X-Men: First Class (2011).

Interestingly the artist chose to use Natalie Portman's face instead of the actress Alicia Vikander. These may have been done before her casting.

Here's what Ava looked like in the film. The film favored a more pronounced distinction between her face and the mechanical parts under her skin.
