Akira (2009) concept art and storyboards by Ruairí Robinson |
One of the more controversial projects over the last few years was the American live-action adaptation of the Japanese Manga film Akira. Back in 2007, Warner Brothers was planning to have Irish Oscar nominee Ruairi Robinson direct the a two picture version of the Akira animated movie. An Akiramovie by Ruairí Robinson would have been fascinating and recently he posted artwork on his website showing what it would have been like.
I've already shared concept art for the film by Tommy Lee Edwards, Rodolfo DaMaggio, Chris Weston, Jeff Enrico and Sylvain Despretz but here's a bunch more Ruairí posted on his site.
Ruairí Robinson is a professional director on science-fiction short films and animations like BlinkyTM (2011) and The Last Days on Mars(2013) while Daniel Simon, Scott Lukowski, Rodolfo Damaggio, James Clyne, Aaron Beck and Charlie Wen are professional concept and storyboard artists.

What do you think of the concept art and storyboards? If you've seen Akira what do you think of the idea behind the live-action Akira movie?
