The Amazing Spider-Man 2(2014) concept art by  Robert O. Simons

Check out The Amazing Spider-Man 2concept art by  Robert O. Simons!

On Friday, I showed you concept art of Electro by Keith Christensen and Jonathon Bach. Today I'm sharing unused designs for Aleksei Sytsevich (Paul Giamatti) known as "Rhino." In the comic books Rhino is superstrong and wears a suit that makes him impervious to damage. In the movie Rhino uses a huge robotic suit that transforms into a Rhino. According to artist Robert Simons the original idea was to make it more of a costume, but eventually it became more of a mech design. Rhino was also supposed to be wearing a helmet, but that was dropped along with the suit.

Robert Simons is a professional concept artist who's worked on big budget films like Ender's Game (2013) and the upcoming Transformers: Age of Extinction (2014).

"These were the original early concepts for Rhino in the film before we locked down the direction we wanted to go into. Originally we played around the idea of Rhino wearing a suit more so than a mech. As you will see below we wound up going with a mech. [The final] set of designs were based off of the direction of a mech instead of a suit. This direction allowed for us to have more liberty with the silhouette of the Rhino design. as you will see below I also had to play with the transformation of the Mech to Rhino from and how you would get inside of this Machine." - Robert Simons

"After working on the suit one of the concepts had a Helmet design so I started to do more detailed studies of the helmet like the graphics and material make up for it. In the end the Helmet was cut from the film so we did not get to far in this design but I still think there is something interesting about them." - Robert Simons

Official The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Synopsis
"We've always known that Spider-Man's most important battle has been within himself: the struggle between the ordinary obligations of Peter Parker and the extraordinary responsibilities of Spider-Man. But in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Peter Parker finds that a greater conflict lies ahead. It's great to be Spider-Man (Andrew Garfield). For Peter Parker, there's no feeling quite like swinging between skyscrapers, embracing being the hero, and spending time with Gwen (Emma Stone). But being Spider-Man comes at a price: only Spider-Man can protect his fellow New Yorkers from the formidable villains that threaten the city. With the emergence of Electro (Jamie Foxx), Peter must confront a foe far more powerful than he. And as his old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, Peter comes to realize that all of his enemies have one thing in common: OsCorp."
